BS TBS online television

BS TBS is the satellite channel of the TBS group in Japan, operated by BS-TBS, INC. and held by TBS Holdings. It began broadcasting on 1 December 2000, one of the commercial satellite stations launched together that day by the key terrestrial networks, and until 31 March 2009 it carried a different name entirely: the company was called Beesu Ai and the channel BS-i, with no reference to the parent network on air, exactly like the satellite service of another key network at the time. On 1 April 2009, when the majority shareholder converted into a certified broadcasting holding company and changed its own name, both the corporate name and the channel name were changed together.

The numbering explains the brand. The remote-control key ID is 6, taken from the analogue master station of the parent network, which transmitted on channel 6. Regular high-definition service runs on 161, a temporary service is reserved on 169, independent data channels 766 and 768 serve the programme guide, and the physical channel is BS-1ch. The station catchphrase is a short Japanese phrase meaning roughly moments that make your heart beat, and the official site describes itself as free, nationwide, everywhere, BS channel 6.

Headquarters and studios are on the fifteenth floor of the TBS Broadcasting Center at Akasaka 5-3-6, Minato-ku, Tokyo, one minute on foot from Akasaka station. Capital is 5,844,272,508 yen, president is Hideki Isano, and revenue and operating profit for the year to March 2023 were 17.218 billion and 2.78 billion yen.
